Wedding Reading - My Flower

Many flowers bloom,

in my garden, they’re sure to grow.

With each season, new arrivals,

more plants to get to know.

You can prepare the soil

to welcome a new seed

into a foundation full of care,

a part of what they need.

But you never truly know

what will bloom and what will not.

Do you flourish with the many

or alone in a flower pot?

Then a seedling appears

and unbeknownst to me…

A romance will start budding,

so beautiful to see.

At the start it’s delicate,

will it grow and will it thrive?

Through the storms and sunshine,

will this plant survive?

It is a big commitment,

trust between my plant and me.

Learning what works as we go,

to flourish as a team.

Getting to know your beauty,

to learn more and to maintain...

Our roots grow deeper and deeper,

even on rocky terrain.

With dedication, this plant grows,

always in my window view.

You are always there for me

as I am there for you!

Life’s not always easy,

we are vulnerable at the start

but with time we grow stronger,

giving light to someone’s heart.

So, just like my plant,

I’ll make a vow to you…

To protect you from weeds,

To water and bring sunshine,

To never let us wither

And to always give you time.

Now you’re in full bloom,

From a seedling once so new,

As my garden grows,

So too does my love for you.

This poem was inspired by a styled shoot at The Garden Room, Newcastle with The North East Wedding Network. I wanted to write a poem likening a relationship to a plant we grow.
